Pics are up in my profile. I have a typewriter on the underside of my forearm (the newest one) and a red star w/ a raised fist holding an wrench and a pencil on my back (my first tat).

Wow those are very unique pieces, what compelled you to get them? What do they symbolize for you?

I decided to get the typewriter because I wanted something “literary” I am a working on my Masters Degree in English and plan to go on to a PhD. I picked this particular one because George Orwell’s work has shaped me a lot as a person. It is hos work that first introduced me to socialist politics as well as inspired me to study literature. The Star is because I wanted my first tattoo to be political since I spend a lot of my time doing political work. I am a socialist so the red star was obvious and the raised fist as a traditional sign of resistance. I added the wrench and the pencil to the fist because I wanted to represent a wide range of workers and include student resistance since campus organizing is where I get my start in doing political work and to represent the bond between workers and students.

I applaud you! That’s excellent symbolism right there. And good luck with your PhD. I’m good at English but I’m more of a spontaneous writer rather than a literary teacher. Composition 2 was not fun! Research…ew….

So do you plan to get anymore tattoos?

I would like to get many more. I want an homage to Woody Guthrie illustrating this verse from “this land is your land” “As I went walking I saw a sign that said no tresspassing but on the otherside it didn’t say nothing that side was made for you and me” So I am thinking a guy w/ a guitar walking off into the sunset with the fence with the sign in the foregroun d and possibly the last 2 lines of the verse around it. I also want one od the orriginal illustrations from alice in wonderland. I am also in the process of losing weight so when I achieve my goal weight I would like to get a pin-up girl. There are a bunch more that I have thought of but these are the ones that have significance, some of the others I want I would get just because I like the art.
