    Hi all

been reading the threads and admiring the gallery, and you all seem like a friendly bunch:D Ive come here to learn more about tattooing and the tattooing process. Perhaps one day I would like to be a tattoo artist, It is something I considered years ago but life took me in different directions. I have kept within the art realm, I am in love with art and in my time I have workied in oil, ink, pastels and fire buring in everything from comics, furry art, portraits, wildlife, celtic knot work, and various pattern work. My latest hobby is pyrography – I burn images onto leather and wood with a small soldering iron. I have been asked to do several knife sheaths, and Im very proud of the work I did, I really poured myself into the design work.
I have a small section of it on my (rather badly hashed together) website though I have created alot more since then. Over the years I have always admired tattoo art, and the tattoo community of people who appreciate good art, and design worked hard at. Nobody appreciates a bad tattoo or something half-assed in the way Ive seen many artists do on paper.
So I say perhaps one day I can dedicate myself to tattooingbe doing my own tattoos, I certainly find myself designing them enough for people who have asked.
Ive been buffeted around long enough know that no industry is easy to get into, the road up to the starting line can be a very long(and costly) trip indeed and so I need to learn as much as possible as early as possible. But I know I would be a good tattoo artist, I have honed my skills since being young, and learned a lot about knotwork design and other various pattern constructions
the pyrography I do is a long and complex process, It involves precise control of a wire glowing at 900 degrees, knowing how deep to burn it, for how long and most important of all – not maing mistakes!
But for now, Im just here to absorb information, and learn from you guys who know alot more about this kind of art than I do, and can probably show me astounding art that will wow me and put me in my place;)

    welcome to the forum.

sadly you must have missed reading the thread where we tell people that we do not talk about tattooing and techniques here !
we only talk about getting tattoos, designs , healing advice etc ……
stick to the rules and we are a very friendly bunch ๐Ÿ˜€

    Oops sorry!!!:D
Im a member of quite a few forums and Im afraid I tend to skim terms and conditions these days I shouldnt of course, cos they are not all the same. My bad.
I am enjoying looking at peoples tattoos on here though, I have a tendancy to get stuck for hours on sites like this just skimming through galleries. I used to go on deviantart alot but it took up too much of my time!

    Hi and welcome

For tattoo tech if you goto outlaw’s forum that should be able to satisfy the tech side of things.

I too would love to see your work – I enjoy (nearly I am excluding some modern shite such as ‘screwed up paper in a room’) all art and have seen a little of the leather burning stuff when I was in the states.

    sure thing!
The leather burning is very addictive! This is a sheath is mostly my own work with some partial design work from the lindesfarne text. I tend to mix old and new designs together

This is almost entirely an old viking design, but it was the first viking knotwork I attempted, i find once Ive done things once and spent many hours looking over the techniques, I can them begin on my own work.

I just got back from sweden where I visited some of the museums to take sneaky photographs and learn more about the history of the design. I learned alot about dalarna artwork as well which seemed to be specific to the region. I spent most of the time visiting old crafts men. No matter how long Ive been doing something Im always a student!

Ive attempted to pattern the scorch marks as well to give it some texture. I dont actually know of any other sheath makers who pyrograph, possibly because its a longer technique and merciless, but its more versatile than stamping.
I also did this canoe paddle, which is abit of a bugbear, it took about 60 hours work, and I dont even own a canoe! I just thought it would look good
wolf and knotwork is a bit cliche, but I cant think of many unchliche things Id put on a canoe paddle!
