so i just got my first tattoo yesterday *its a turtle lol* and i have a few questions about aftercare

i just got out of the shower, and my tattoo feels slimy. should i still put the A&D ointment on there? i washed it with anti bacterial soap, and dried it with a paper towel.

also, how often should i put A&D on it? an hour range would be good. i know i should do it when it feels dry, but im in class all day, and probably won’t be thinking about how dry it is. so every how many hours?

oh! and i bought aveeno lotion for babies. its fragrance and color free and whatnot, but i just wanted to know if it was okay to use

i know i have a bunch of questions but thank you for taking the time to look and to answer =]

    thank you so much!!

well congrats on the new tattoo. it will feal slimy after it gets wet for awhile. Then it will feel kinda slick when its wet for awhile. wash it gently, pat it dry softly with a towel or soft cloth, and put some a & d on it. Do that before you go to bed, and do it when you wake up in the morning, do it again in the afternoon. More often if it feels extra dry. carry a little travel bottle of lotion with you if you want. Then if it gets super dry you can put some on. it will eventually be dry and start peeling and itch like crazy….applying a little a and d or lotion will help relieve the itchiness. I never really put anything on mine more than 3-4 times a day. good luck

When you hop out of the shower dry it gently with a paper towel and then apply A&D ointment. Even if you’re in class take a trip to the restroom and apply ointment 3-4 times a day for the first few days, then apply it twice a day for the next three days,” YOUR tattoo artist should have given you an after care sheet.”
If the tattoo dries out then apply ointment again.
Don’t use any lotion that has petroleum in it as a product.
    Johnson& Johnson products are good
