I know this has probably been asked many times, but I figured i’d rather have mine answered directly then risk having a different situation than someone else asking a similar question.

I got a new tattoo across my left shoulder-blade on Tuesday. Tonight, Friday, I have a hockey game and was wondering if this would really damage the tattoo. Hockey is a sport where you obviously often use your shoulders, and you do sweat a very good amount. I was wondering if it is that bad in that I should try and tell the team I can’t play tonight, or if I just need to take some precautionary measures. If so, what might these measures be?

Thanks tons everyone. By the way, this is my first post, so nice to meet everyone :]

You got it, brand new tattoo, shoulder pads are going to ruin it. Who knows they’re could be a chance that nothing happens. But for sure if your scabbing then there is a good chance you are going to be pulling color.

    Hi

The last thing you want over a fresh wound is some bacteria ridden, sweaty shoulder pads where you are gonna get bashed on it every opportunity if they know you have a fresh tattoo.

Besides the increased risk of infection you can tear the scabs off and lift ink if it rubs.

Leave the hockey for 2 weeks and let it heal.

    Take Care

Thanks for the advice, but we don’t wear shoulder pads, I should’ve specified. I was planning to lay off anyway, but the only thing that’d really be touching it would be my jersey, which I wash in the washing machine after every game I play. I think i’ll take it easy, last thing I want to do is ruin the tattoo.

    Thanks again guys.
