So, I got my first tattoo a few months ago. It’s quite large (hips to ribs, navel to spine) and ended up taking a total of 4 sessions, each requiring 2-3 hours of work, each session spaced at least 3 weeks apart. The problem I’m having is that one section of my tattoo – and only one section – appears dry, wrinkled, and slightly raised. It appears anywhere where white ink was blended with two specific colours – a pink and a peach. White ink was used on other sections of the tattoo both alone, and blended with teal/green, and on these sections it appears to be fine.
The problem area was done in two sittings, half in June, and the other half in July when the final touches were done to another section.
I cared for this section of the tattoo just as I did for the rest of it, so I’m at a loss as to why only a portion of the tattoo would be like this.
As I’m currently out of the town, I can’t get in to see my artist till next week, and it’s been really bothering me lately.
It’s also quite itchy and tender. At first I just assumed it was taking slightly longer to heal, but seeing as how the last of the work was done in July and it’s now September, I’m increasingly concerned.

Any suggestions as to what’s wrong with it or what can be done?

Ya know, this sounds similar to a problem my dad had with one of his tattoos recently. He had a staph infection and it went unchecked for a couple months before he finally got it taken care of.

Know I’m not sure what the issue with your is, especially considering that I can’t see it in person.

But his was raised and itchy like what your describing and kinda makes me wonder if it could possibly be a staph infection.

I’d say go to the doctor and have them look at it. This would be your best bet anyhow cause then if there is something goin on with it, then you know now instead of later.

Yeah, forget about going back to the tattooist. Find a dermatologist, and find one NOW.

+1 for going to a doctor, sounds like either an infection or some sort of rash, not like a problem the artist could care for.
