just wanted to find out if my tattoo is healing alright, it did scab up abit after a few days but over the past week they’ve been flaking off, ive been using bepanthen on it 2 – 3 times a day and keeping it clean, ive got another 2 hours of shading booked on the 1st of december and im not too sure its all gonna be healed by then…

thanks 🙂

oh and on the second picture, you can notice a light blue tribal design, this new tattoo is covering that up.

Hi Ambient,

this definitely looks okay to me. You should be feeling slightly itchy too, it’s perfectly fine.

Hey jacksonsoo,

thanks man! think i was a bit paranoid those scabs would ruin the tattoo, but all’s well, they fell off and tat looks all good!, just had another 4 hours added, just gotta make sure to clean and moisturise more this time round 🙂

Be careful not to over moisturize, that’s not good either but a very common mistake. 2-3 times like you were doing should be plenty.

You’re doing fine don’t worry. I was once paranoid like yourself when i got my first tattoo but i understand, because its on you for life and of course you want it perfect!

Cheers!

Yeah i’m making sure not to over moisturise, the only reason i said “clean and moisturise a bit more” is because on my first set i didn’t clean and moisturise enough and accidently let it dry out, hence why it scabbed

I’m on my 3rd day after my 4 hour set, and I’ve been cleaning and moisturising 3 times a day, and this time around a white/blackish layer is flaking off, im guessing this is the top layer of dead skin coming off

also thought id include a couple of pics after the first and second sets

Yeah, the “ugly phase” of the healing process where it’s looking dull and flaking usually freaks people out after their first tattoo. I know it did for me. It’s like a snake molting with shedding one layer of dead skin and redeveolping a new one where it will look good again.

Yeah going through that now, flakes of dead skin make it look disgusting in places.

also, it is okay if when washing it and applying moisturiser flakes come off, i know not to peel or pick it, but wasn’t sure if them coming off whilst washing/moisturising is a bad sign

Yes, flakes coming off during wahsing and moisturizing is normal but be gentle. The flakes should fall off naturally though during that process, just becareful not to accidentally force one off that’s not ready yet.
