I got my fourth tattoo 3 days ago on my forearm just above the wrist. It’s a small butterfly with the cancer ribbon. The colors are teal, red and pink. The day after I accidently punctured a spot on the tattoo which caused some ink to leak out. I gently washed the sight, patted dry and applied A&D. Since then when the ointment is applied parts of the tattoo with slightly bubble up until I wash and pat it dry. As of right now I do not have any ointment on the tattoo. My worry is an infection being that it is a fresh tattoo and any kind of damage to already opened skin is sensitive to almost anything until it fully heals. Should I just keep the area dry and clean w/out ointment until it fully heals?

If you’re using A&D as aftercare, your tattooer probably used it while tattooing you. It had petroleum in it. Your body rejects the petroleum and also the ink with it.

Next time you get a tattoo request a non petroleum based lubricant when getting tattooed. I use Redemption. It’s produced by tattoo artists (Timmy B.) for tattoo artists. There are other brands too. Just remember NO PETROLEUM.

After three days you should be good with a very light application of a fragrance free moisturizer such as Aveeno, or Cetaphil.
For your next tattoo go with the dry wrap method for three days.

I’m mobile and do not see how to post photos to the forum w/out a URL. The same artist did my neck as well and while being on the back of my neck I wasn’t looking at it every other 5 min, it healed well w/no issues, w/the exception that I did not puncture it either. Thank you for the no petroleum advice, I’m keeping it clean and dry right now. *would like to post a photo somehow*

Sounds good. Open an album in “Gallery” then transfer the url from there.

Is that picture taken long after you got the tattoo? There’s so much ointment on it, it almost looks like its straight from the needle. (they add a lot of vaseline)

this photo is the day after the tattoo after I accidently punctured it on a sharp edge where the black ink is next to the ribbon. I did apply A&D after I washed it and took a close up when it started bubbling a little

It looks like you’re using too much lotion. Also, it’s scabbing, so you should only apply “lotion” once a day, and only wash when needed. (if there are excess fluid coming out)

It looks bad now, but a tattoo takes almost three months to heal.

    Keep us posted.

Yep looks bad but not infected. Keep it clean and dry and after it heals completely (2 to 3 months) go get your free touch up.
After your touch DO NOT use A and D just use a unscented alcohol free lotion once or twice a day a light coat is all that is needed.

Have to agree there’s no S/S infection. Also, that’s the ovarian cancer ribbon! I know that ribbon!

Things that are distal (Latin for “real fuckin’ far away”) from your torso heal slowly. Wrists and ankles are about the worst. Want a tattoo that heals good and bright? Get it on your face or genitals. I’m not even kidding. I’ve never seen a poorly healed genital tattoo to this day.
