the title kind of says it all.
Is there a legal age for someone to become an apprentice in a tattoo shop?

No, you just need to be old enough to legally work, which is 15 I think.

hmm, interesting. im 15 and iv had a week of experience in a studio. they said they would seriously consider me as an apprentice in the future.:D they already have an apprentice at the minute. even once that apprenticeship is finished i think if they were to take on another person they would probably take on someone with more quallifications so i shouldnt get my hopes up. just keep drawing and keep in contact with them:cool:

Never stop drawing. If the shop lets you hang around, keep doing it. You learn by observing, and if you can watch someone while they tattoo, you are already apprenticing. Try to run errands (like picking up food) for the shop. You may not be legally employed by the shop, but you can voluntarily do things around there like taking out the trash. Persistence keeps your foot in the door. Be useful and not annoy the tattooists and they may let you stay. Keep your mouth shut and learn everything you can.

The legal age to be able to do a tattooing apprenticeship is 18, just like the age to get tattooed.
If a tattoo shop has someone under the age of 18 working in their studio all of their insurance goes out of the window. They will not be covered by their insurance if you are under the age of 18.
I have this in writing from a tattoo artist with regards to an apprenticeship 🙂

That not a ‘legal’ requirement, thats a proviso set out by the tattooists insurer.
Therefore it will not be the same for all tattooists…
