For a few years now I’ve really wanted to get a tattoo. When I turned 18 earlier this month I seriously was ready to go out on my birthday to get it done, but then I decided that it was simply me getting over-excited about being able to sign off on these things. Well, the excitement of turning 18 has faded (did the whole lotto cig. porn thing) and I still really want that tattoo.
So would getting a 3 letter long word tattoo behind my left ear be a mistake? How much would it cost?
The word is wax.
And it has nothing to do with earwax… which has suddenly been pointed out to me by a friend. It has to do with the fact that when they sculpted things from marble and made a mistake they filled it with wax- a perfect statue would then be noted as being without wax, leading to that phrase growing in meaning. “Without wax” in spanish is how we got the word sincere.
I know i’m not perfect so I want the simple word wax, meaning I’m not afraid not to be perfect. I want it behind my left ear because there’s a hole in my brain in the area and that’s the hole that I want to fill with wax. Symbolically, anyway.
I don’t think I would regret the word later on- it has meaning, it’s not anything like getting a unicorn on my boob. At the very most I would simply add ‘without’ above it.
Is that stupid?
Now that you explain the story it seems nice, but most people will think of earwax until you tell them that story.
Honey you should even ask people. If its something YOU want, and YOU like, DO IT! screw anybody who trys to tell you differently! The ONLY suggestion I would ever give for this is to make sure you can’t see it when your hair is how you would wear it to work. Employers tend to not go for the visible tattoo thing. I think that needs to change, but whatever. Just think about that.
I think placing it by your ear may be a bit of mistake… only because the first thing I thought of was earwax.
i think it would be a great idea to get something that you wan t and love without regreting it but i would recommend not getting it on your ear i mean if you really want it go for it but i think for your sake you might regret it, get it on you neck or wrist or something. but in the end its all up to you, its your body your going to live with it forever do what you like.
You need to price it at the shop. I have a one color tattoo all the way around my ankle that was 175 and it’s a shotty job – I hate it – but it’s permanent. I have one on by back with 2 colors and paid 75 – looks great – love it.
You just really need to be sure you want it. Have them draw it on you and price it then walk away for a few days to think about it and look at it on you.
If you are having doubts, the answer is no.
Oh – what word? Will you always want that word on your body?
i do not think you will regret it, because its something meaningful to you its something special!
dont let the opinions of others affect your your choice of something sp special to you
the only reason u’d regret it is because of the ear wax thing, but i personally think it’s a great idea… i love the story behind it, and so will those who you tell it too, lol..
maybe get the word in spanish… it would still fit you’re story, ect..:) hope i’ve helped
i think it’d be a mistake. because if you try to get a job they might disapprove of any visible tattoos. cost only 100-150
Cost is not part of the equation here.
The fact that you are young, at the beginning of your career and probably not sure where you want to go with your career is (who knows what they want to do at that age, where they will end up, how the mind will alter and drive in another direction as you battle your way into the next 10-20 years, I know I’m not where I expected to be and I have no fear I’m in the majority).
People who can go for neck, face, hands and head tattoos early on are mainly artists and suchlike or self employed in a none one on one client capacity. Believe me it does change peoples opinions. No matter how much I don’t like to follow societies driven steriotypes, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t get much work, when dealing with a client, its sleeves down and buttons up, once I got the job I don’t give a monkeys, and I’m self employed so….
The stigma around tattoos is very very real unfortunatley, and the hairy arsed, fighting, drinking battle scarred criminal steriotype still exists for those with their head stuck in the sand or buried in the past.
I think until you have thought of where you will want to be in 20 years it would be a mistake. No harm will come to you from not getting it, yet getting it so early could seriously restrict your social acceptance in your choices in life.
Remember, you may be free spirited, but people around you may not be, don’t judge a book by its cover is only a myth, people do. ‘Fuck the system’ only works when you don’t give a fuck. And if you don’t give a fuck maybe we would be living up to the steriotype people won’t accept.
Good luck!
