I’m thinking of getting a tattoo (finally!). I live in Denmark, but I’m going to New York and Los Angeles in a few weeks, and got a few questions 🙂

Is it at all possible to get a tattoo like this (without the writing, and black/white I think): Link to image

How much (ballpark figure) do you think it would cost?

Where (on my body) should I get it?
    – I’m a bit on the fatty side (5.10″ 200 pounds… NOT muscle), but I’m losing weight (slowly). Is there a good place to get one, where it won’t be affected that much by weight difference (when I muscle up)?

    Thanks for your input 🙂

In my opinion the only sensible place would be your back, high on your shoulders. And given the amount of detail in that and how large you would want it to be in order to see the detail I think that would cost at LEAST 1000 US dollars. If not more. Depends where you go. Some place popular it would probably be like 3K. I don’t know though, i havn’t gotten a tat in like 5 years, and with todays inflation I could be way off, LOL. Good luck bro!

the cost would depend on how large you want it and how long it takes to do .
i think if your planning on having this as a large back piece you would be best to find a tattooist good enough for the job in denmark as it will take lots of sittings 😮

but if your planning on having it small get in done in the US if the ex change rate is good 😉

As for size, I was thinking about 8 inches / 20 cm in width/height.

Hey Yin Yang, my name is Jeremy Garrett a.k.a. NYARTMAN of http://www.nyartman.com in New York City. That’s a nice design you’ve chosen. You could get that tattoo done in one sitting but it would mostly depend on you and if you can sit through it. Of course I think you should get your tattoo done in NYC and by me of course, the tattooing superhero. Actually all kidding aside NYC is filled with a gob very talented tattoo artists. You shouldn’t have a problem finding a good one to take care of you, just do your homework before picking one. We have an over abundance of flash type shops here with inkslingers with varying degrees of competence. For the most part I would recommend you avoid these types of shops and find a custom tattoo artist. We tend to have more experience, our rates are typically uniform and we are usually more professional and are easier to deal with. The average hourly rate for a good custom tattoo artist in NYC is $150. Keep in mind a higher rate doesn’t translate to a better artist. In a lot of cases it has to do with their overhead or the percentage they have to give to the shop, rents in NYC are beyond outrageous. I agree with some of the other folks that have post here, I also think it would look cool on the upper part of your back. Anyway, take care and come visit us in Gotham.

    Regards,

    Jeremy Garrett

Thanks, but I’m back in Denmark again. I’ll keep it in mind though. I looked at your website, and I really like your work. Thanks for the reply 🙂
