Hi! As you’ll figure from not having seen me around (apart from lurking! ROFL!) and this is my first post, I’m new here… so “hi!” *waves*

Anyway… I am shortly getting another tattoo on my leg. Not a problem. Have one already on my lower back, done 9 years ago, and still love it.

I am also looking to get a very small tattoo done at the same time… and this one does seem to be a bit of a problem. I want it on an area of my body that is exposed the majority of them time… and at the same time I want it hidden from view. ROFL! So the conclusion I came to was the palm. Not the middle of my palm, but the inside of my thumb on the fleshy bit that is inside the palm.

However…. having done some searches here, it seems that inside of the plam is not such a good idea as I thought it was (I was just so happy I thought of a place where it would be exposed by not visible)…

So, I’m now considering the back of my wrist. However – this really scares me! Eeeek! And no, I’m not scared of getting a tattoo, wasn’t the first time, and certainly am not now after having the first one done all those years ago (I was expecting some pain, especially with it being low on the spine, but all I felt was a vibration, no pain whatsoever)… and I have no worries about the one on the leg. But the wrist…. I can see my veins there, and it just seems so wrong to me to do one there… it terrifies me.

So… some advice either way would be good. Is my fear of having one done on the inside of the wrist unjustified? How bad is it really to get a tattoo on the inside of the palm?

    Cheers for any advice!

if i had any influence then i would stop you getting it on the palm, the reasons being are

    1. it can fade there real quick
    2. it dont heal quickly because of the movement it has
    3. its a major public viewing area

the wrist aint as bad as you think, them veigns aint as close to the surface as you think they are.
and you can cover it with a long sleeve so it aint in major public view (incase you need to hide it at work or interviews etc)

let us know what you decide on 😉

Cheers for that! Yes, it’s the fading I’m worried about on the palm…

But you haven’t calmed me on the wrist bit! ROFL! I swear if the veins were more visible then they are now, they’d be on top of the skin (I’m extremely pale… going on skimmed milk blueish colour. lol! and got very thin wrists)… I’m sure they’re just like any other persons veins… but they sure don’t look it! lol!

I know you should never rush into getting tattoos (the one on the leg I decided on 4 years ago)… but I need this tattoo. Clearly I do not need it as such, I’m sure the sun will rise again without me getting it… but I’ve gotten it into my mind that I must have this, and it must be in an exposed area (but of course the conservative part of my brain is telling me it must also not be in view… just exposed)… and I know myself well enough to know that this tattoo is the only thing that will be on my mind until I get it (am on the autistic spectrum, and will get completely absorbed into things and ideas… this time the little tattoo).

    Hi CathA

With Outlaw 100% on the palm idea – they just do not take ink well and it is a constant battle of inking and healing to maintain them.

Also as said they are impossible to cover.

With regards to veins in your wrist…

They appear blue because of the light refraction upon the skin when it absorbs the light – your veins maybe more prominent because of the radial and ulnar artery that helps keep the blood pumping round your arms.

The amount of skin is the same 7 layers on your wrist as it is on the rest of your body so the veins are actually deeper than you think just by looking with the naked eye.

A tattoo should take as well there as any other place on the body. Also to ease your fears on a ‘wrist spurter’ the wrist is an extremely tough part of the body and to slash veins you would have to work really deep with something like a glass edge or a razor to open them.

Whilst I suppose it is techinically possible to do it with a tattoo machine this would take a very, very, huge amount of pressure and strength to achieve – so it is a near impossibility for it to be done by accident.

So I wouldnt worry – I know several ppl with full sleeves and wrist tats and all said pretty much the same as any other.

    Take Care

Eeeeeeeeek! lol! ‘fraid it’s not the blood I’m scared of, so it didn’t work… lol! I don’t really know what my fear there is, but it just seems to wrong with the veins showing like that.

I’m glad to hear it’s the same there as the rest… it certainly doesn’t look the same *studies wrist*

Different question… I could go for it on top of my wrist, not the back. However, I want it on my right hand, and I got a scar running across the top of my wrist there (college cooking accident… lol!). Would the scar I got there effect it? I know that people sometimes gets tattoos to cover up scars, so I’m assuming not….

    Hi CathA

It really depends on the scar.
I am covered in them from head to toe (tough upbringing 😉 ).

The types of scars that may not take ink well are ones where you have had deep burns on them or where you have had skin graphs.

General ‘surface’ scars should be able to take the ink but my advice is speak with an experienced artist and/or a dermatologist who will be ebst to advise.

Although if you have a thing about the wrists been tattooed might be worth getting another part of your body done eg bicep or tricep, inner forearm etc.

    Take care

I will of course cunsult with the tattoo artist before getting it… but I’d like to have decided on the area first… lol! It should be ok then, as it is a burn scar, but it was never deep, just left a scar, that runs across the top of my wrist.

With my first tattoo, and the one I’m getting on the leg, I have chose to have them in an area that can be easily covered up… whereas with this one I want it in an eara that’s constantly exposed. My partner is suggesting I have it higher up on my inner arm, but again it’s the lack of exposure that is concerning me (not that I’m that interested in people seeing it, I’m not. The tattoo is for me, not for anyone else, but I want it on exposed skin, due to what it means to me… it’s a symbol of protection).

I’m probably making a big fuss about anything… it could well be that the tattoo artist manages to calm my fear of having it on my inner wrist… lol!

Ans Matthew… I’m so sorry to hear of your childhood…. (((((hugs)))))

I had scars on wrists and arms they were pretty nasty and ive covered them sweet. Ive tattooed palms also, but have advised against it, outlaw is right about the fading. I redo once for free then theyre on thier own with it. Same goes for fingers. And inner wrists do hurt, i will not lie lol

LMAO…..seriously, i have a wrist tatt and a hand tatt (not palm) the wrist tatt hurt ALOT but was worth it, and the hand tatt has to be redone every couple of years because of the fading.
When i got my hand tatt another of the things that doesnt help the healing prosess is the ammount of times you wash your hands in comparison to the rest of your body, so the healing is slower and sometimes it is patchy.
im sure by now you have the tatt, so let us know where and how pretty

Sadly no new tattoo still… life’s been pretty much a mess… lol! There’s lot of family issues at the moment and I’ve been stressed to the hilt. To the point where I then feared I was pregnant, but it turned out that it was the stress causing my period to stop, and my hyperthyroidism that was causing the queeziness. lol!

Family issues are now hopefully sorted (I will instead of the baby I was terrified of growing in me, and at the same time all excited about, end up with a very troubled teenager oming to live with us)… but a lot can happen between now and when things are supposed to be sorted.

Will post piccies when I finally get around to it (have already been booked, but had to cancel).
