Hello, I have been waffling about a tattoo for many years but could never find one i was happy with I have 2 children and I would like to somewhat incorporate this into my tattoo, I want it on the upper part of my back or even on my neck, i recently found this tattoo http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=93557&id=580993091&l=1fd40
but Im still not 100% about it I was thinking of adding some latin wording to it :meus liberi meus diligo meus vita which translates to my children, my love, my life but is this tacky.
Any feedback will be greatly received.
Hi
No I do not think it is tacky – but I am sure from my latin classes (some years ago) that meus diligo means to ‘highly value’ which is one of the transitive words to love.
This is because in latin there was;
a love of something owned or close to you (high value – diligo),
a love of somebody in the sense of respect or esteem (dilecto- solictiude or esteem),
a sexual love (amore – sexual love, passion, infatuation).
Looking at the three meus diligo is the most appropriate – just saying don’t be tempted to use the word amore in the latin phrases as I have seen on some tattoos in regards to their children.
Anyhow nice tattoo idea and nice phrase.
Please post up when you get it done.
Take Care
Matthew
Thank you yeah i agree i will stick with Diligo i would say amore is slightly inappropriate when its about my kids. I think I am still going to have a play with it and see if i can come up with anything to improve it as I will have to extend the script to fit the phrase on, and I’d need to rotate it slightly so it will sit right on my back. But thank you soo much for your feedback, its always good o get somebody elses opinion esp in your case someone who knows their latin!
