    Hello:confused: everyone,

I’m new and I’ve just had my first tattoo done. Big piece on thigh – 5 hrs work with another 12 to go. I had it done about a week ago, and now the muscle in my thigh aches if I walk around/stand up for any length of time. It doesn’t particularly hurt where the tat is – it hurts above my knee. It feels sort of bruised, but there isn’t any noticeable bruising, swelling, redness or anything like that. Any idea what it might be? Is it normal?! (I’m a bit of a worrier..) Grateful for any advice. Cheers.

    Hi

It is normal because there has been a lot of pressure applied to the muscle – much of the ‘damage’ is below the skin as the ink has to settle in the lower dermis to hold in place.

Cramp and soreness in the muscles is usually associated with long sessions – not everybody suffers but some do (including myself).

Also if the tattooist was holding your thigh whilst working to keep the area still this can cause bruising and soreness around the area.

If you notice any serious welts or purple/black/green bruising that is spreading or a red lines or streaks running up your leg get it checked out. This is in rare cases. (If in doubt consult a med proffesional)

Otherwise pop a few ibruporfen and it will wear off in a short while.

You have had some major work done so expect to be stiff and sore.

    Take Care
    Matthew

Thanks for the reassurance, people. It is actually starting to feel better now.
