First of all, hello! I’m new to this forum and this is my first post.
The design I decided on is actually a quote from J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye – ” I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I’d really like to be.” There are plenty of reasons as to why I chose this quote, but mainly because I identify closely with the character Holden Caulfield (the character speaking this quote) and because I really love this scene in the book.
Now I just have a few questions before I get my first tattoo:
First, how important is choosing a tattoo artist when I am just going to be getting a times new roman font tattoo, there will be very little precise detail going into this, just a lot of straight lines.
Second, where should I place this tattoo? I was planning on either just below my shoulder blade on the right side of my back, at the very bottom of my lat on the right side(kinda wrapping around from the back to the front) or on my lower side, just below my main ribs, kinda on top of my floating ribs. also should I get it as one long line or break it down into multiple lines?
Third, I have a few pimples on my back, nothing serious, just like 5-10 spread throughout. Will this be a problem at all with the tattooing even if there are no blemishes at the actual site of the tattoo, and could this pose a problem in the future, after the tattoo has been inked?
And FINALLY does anyone know any good tattoo parlors in Ontario Canada? I’m currently living in Waterloo but could get myself over to Toronto for an occasion like this. I actually live in Los Angeles usually so should I just wait until I get back to LA and go to one of the many fantastic parlors there? (I’ll be back in LA in mid August)
Thank you in advance for your feedback and I’m sorry for the length of this post.
Just a quick reply, i dont have alot of time 🙂 only go to a reputable tattoo artist, it doesnt matter that its only lettering, that can still be fucked up by an amaeture, as long as your skin is clear and free from infection or pimples it shouldnt be a prob.
OK, thank you for the reply. I’ll make sure to look into my artist before I make any decisions.
your having a giraffe…… there is lots of precise work in doing script of any style, and straight lines need to look perfect or they show up like a cow in a synagogu……
choose your artiste well as the piece is pretty darn perminant….
Only get a tat done by a professional tattoo artist, even if you only want a 1mm dot done.
Besides actual artistic ability you need to be sure they use proper sterilization techniques. There are several articles on the internet on what to look for. Just google “first tattoo advice” or something similar should bring plenty up.
Thinking you are getting a deal b/c some guy is going to ink you in his basement for $20 and a 12 pack may not be when you end up getting hepatitis or something. 😮
Thank you guys, I’ll definitely put a lot of time into deciding which artist to choose, but do you have any suggestions for artist or parlors in or around the Waterloo or Toronto area?
Theres a great guy named Jay Hesse in St. Catharines (niagara region) who is at a place called Chronic Tattoo. Hes done all my work, he is a really skilled artist and definitely knows his shit!
I really appreciate the suggestion, I’ll definitely look into that.
