    Hi,

I’m scheduled to get my first tattoo tomorrow (very excited)! I’m getting on my upper arm, but I have a small scab there. It’s nearly healed over, but will still be there tomorrow. I can get the tattoo above it, but I would prefer to get a larger one if I can have the scab tattooed over. Is it okay to do this, or is it best to just get a tat above it?

    Thanks!

    Hi

It is never a good idea to tattoo over a scab it can lead to the ink dropping out, infection and scarring.

My advice is get the appt suspended and wait till it heals so you can get the tattoo the size and placemnt you really want – it is on for life.

Alternatively get most of the tattoo done and wait for teh scab to heal then tattoo back over teh area that was left.

    Take Care

Thanks. I actually drew the tattoo myself on a piece of paper, cut it out, and found that I can still get the size I wanted while avoiding the scab. My shoulder fits a lot more design than I originally thought it did before fitting the drawing on.

not true. it is never a good idea to tattoo over a scab, even a scar. Most artists will avoid tattooing scars. Yeah its your skin, but its the artists work being displayed. And if its look bads cause of your scar he/she looks bad
