    hi there all,
i’m new here in the forums but i can see there’s a lot of experienced people around here so i would really appreciate if you could share your opinions with me 🙂

i have a new design for a tattoo but i’m afraid that he may be too complex and would get lost during the tattooing process…

this is the design (my own original idea painted by the amazing Emily Oldroyd):

and i want to do it on my right shoulder.

it suppose to be a part of a full back tattoo and fit with my other two tattoos:

    so what do you think?
is it too complex and what is the optimal size for this design in your opinion?

    thanks in advance,
    jon

Its not too complex and it would make an amazing piece. However, you’ll need to go large. I would go no smaller than two and a half times larger than the picture as it is posted on this thread. I would also not do it on the shoulder. I would do it on the center of the back and make it the focal point of the back pattern with everything else emanating out from this.

how large are you going to go with it ? as long as its big it wont loose detail .
will be a strange but cool tattoo 😎

i haven’t decided about the size yet, but i guess it would be big…

also i don’t want it at the center of my back because there suppose to be a pentagram that would connect all of my tattoos (there is another two tattoos in plan that would be arrange around my back to correspond the pentagram)
that’s at least my plan for now…

my thought was to put my hyenaman either on my shoulder or at the lower left portion of my back…

    Hi

To be honest to do it some serious justice you need to use up as much of the space towards the centre that you can manage.

If you do that it will be a mind blowing piece!

This is because you can really get the fine detail which makes a good tatt a great tatt. If you go shoulder you are cramping the size of the piece and have to account for blurring with age.

I would suggest maybe having the pentagram as a back drop into which the man is standing and then a smaller pentagram and maybe some astral lattice linking them all on the shoulder?

    PS

I really love the chaos 8 star.

I agree. I said a minimum of 2 and a half times as large, but honestly, I would go three times as large or larger. Its an awesome piece, but putting it on your shoulder will restrict size down to about twice as large. You’ve then taken an awesome tattoo and made it into an okay tattoo that in ten years will just be a tattoo.
