i was thinking about getting one, but it’s permanant and i really don’t like the thought of walking around at 40 or 50 with black eyes, so then i got to thinking, could UV ink be a possible solution for this? what do you guys think?
if you dont want to be walking around at 40 – 50 with a tattoo dont get a tattoo !
UV is something i would stay away from, also if you dont want black eyes why would you want to look like the oldest raver in town ?
nah it’s not that i mind having the tattoos, it’s just i don’t want my kids to be creeped out with there dad having all black eyes, other tattoos i have no problem with. as for the rave part, where im from i definitely wouldn’t look like that no matter what lol, but with the uv ink, you wouldn’t have them so noticeable 24/7, plus people would just shit brix at a rave 😛
Do you mean actually getting you eye ball tattooed? In which case :eek:. Why in god’s name anyone would mess with their eyes is beyond me. If you want coloured eye balls why not just get some contacts then you can just wear them when you like?
If you just mean getting a tattoo of a pair of eyes, then go for it!:D
I think it sounds risky personally, and there is NO way you can cover colour on your eyeball save sunglasses.
UV ink, if you look around the forum, is already disputed by the artists who write here; and most of them say they wouldnt use it because it’s not definitely safe as it hasn’t been around long enough for anyone to know the side effects. Sherav, who is really good with stuff about tattoo chemicals, says a lot of UV inks contain various scary sounding elements ending with -ium (eg barium, I think). These are thought to possibly cause cancer.
From the sounds of it, it’s already a gamble to place it in your skin. Your eye is far, far more delicate, and putting potentially toxic substances on your cornea is probably not the best idea. Also, from general UV colourings I’ve seen, it can glow slightly in the shade of normal sunlight, which would freak your kids out just as much.
I would not do it personally, in colour or UV. You might not want your kids to be scared about dark eyes, but I bet they’d be more upset if their dad went blind – is it really worth the risk, cool as it might look?
I vote just get a tattoo and have a range of coloured contact lenses. I’ve worn black ones, I’m wearing aqua cat ones to a party in a few weeks and that way you can always be changing them, and taking them out.
Just my opinion – hope it’s at all useful and doesnt come across as rude. If I were you I’d wait for answers from some of the tattooists and possible sherav for some advice
Poesy
I think Poesy had a great answer for you.
I just doesn’t sound like a good idea.
Hi
Corneal tattooing is possible and can be done usually in blue or black (some state purple can be used as well).
The issues you have is that the protective coating across your eyeball does breakdown with age and putting in pigment in theory can hasten this.
Also there is a small-med chance of corneal scarring that can lead to blinding if the artist makes a bollocks of it.
There are 2 types of UV inks one is proven to cause cancer the other is as yet untested and was not meant for human consumption – it is an animal and fish dye. (I am overhauling my blogs but left a copy up on sherav@wordpress.com it is under what is tattoo ink?).
Eitherway putting UV of any sort into the eye will blind you.
Stick with coloured contacts.
Take Care
Matthew
ok thanks to Poesy and Sherav, that was the info I was looking for
