I have had a design in mind now for my a long time for my first tattoo and have found an artist that, after some research to find, I will visit but I have some questions still.
1. My tattoo idea is very simple, just an empty rectangle on inner forearm from top top of bicep to bottom of wrist; should I come to the artist with my own design on paper roughly to scale and have them create the final design? Or just leave it up to him?
2. I want to initially get just an empty rectangle as I plan to fill it in with more content in the future; I know tattoos fade and “wear in” the older they get, so is it possible to re-do or go over the rectangle outline again some time in the future? Or does this damage skin/produce a crappy result?
Cheers

But this being your first tattoo you may think this tattooist is the correct one but they might not be. Simplest tattoos sometimes are the hardest to nail. Please post a link to your chosen tattooist
This is him. I chose him for his specialisation in blackwork.
My idea is to ultimately have a solid black rectangle on the forearm but I was thinking I could get the outline first and fill it in later but if this isn’t possible I will reconsider and just wait longer and probably get the whole thing done at once.
He will do just fine maybe you can rethink your design a bit. To me it will look as if you are covering up a tattoo
What do you mean? You are saying it’s a stupid idea to get an outline done and fill it in later? Either get the whole thing or not at all?

I think he is saying that it is going to look like the cover-up here: Nice cover-up… – WTF Tattoos : WTF Tattoos
Also, if you get just a rectangle outline done it will only take a few minutes but you are going to have to pay ‘shop minimum’ to get it done. That is usually a half hour rate, for something that will take 5 minutes. You would be better off to get it all at once, price-wise. Although I am not sure why anyone would want a big black rectangle on their arm.

Thanks for the advice. Thanks also for the oh-so relevant creative input; does that mean I get to ask why anyone would want to get multicoloured portrait tattoos…?
Anyway, looks like I’ll just get it all done in one.

…ok.
Well, I think I’m done with this forum haha.
yeh I was thinking about getting a huge circle on my face and then filling it in… can’t imagine why anyone would question that…
Let the muppet have his big black box
good luck paying for the laser bro…

In my opinion tattoos should be designed to fit the contours of the body, considering size, shape, and complexion of the skin.
The tattoo you have in mind would be very appropriate on one of the guys in Dire Straight’s “Money for Nothing” music video.
