This isn’t specifically about Zinn’s koi, but why the popularity of them? It seems like every website, book, flash sheet, and shop artist have a zillion different ones that all essentially look the same. I’m not knocking, I’m just curious as to where they come from and what meanings are carried with them.
*shrug* Starving artists with tattoo guns make for fun and interesting memories, even if the resulting tats aren’t the best in the world.
It’s safe to say we’ve met. 😀 Unfortunately, geopgraphical differences make spending time impossible, so mutual online hobbies come in handy.
Yanno, if I could just learn to read, I wouldn’t ask stupid querstions.
I’m sorry, my lips? I was aware of my hand skills, but what about my lips?
In relation to planning sleeves, I thought of a good way to incorporate my less visually stunning inks into a greater piece. The symbols I have already do have personal meaning, hence my hesitation to cover them. That, and they are black, so I’m not sure how well they can be covered up.
HeartFlower (oh, how I snicker at that name, and I maintain that LotusPedal would have been a cooler one) – you keep your comments about my hands to yourself. These people don’t need the sordid details of your crazy fantasies.
Very nice work. Is this the finished product, or are you going back for coloring as well? It looks good in the greyscale, either way.
Thanks for posting the close up of the butterfly it is a beautiful piece of art.
The lyrics also sound lovely. I will see about checking the band out as my eardrums are just numb from my usual head banging tunes. 🙂
Take Care

Luckily for you, you won’t have to harm your ears listening to it. It’s a poem.
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

For a slightly more analog look, you could always Sharpie on a tattoo idea, see how it looks. If you don’t like it, shower it off and try again!
Hello Zenn! I actually got my first ink in Charlotte NC, at a place called Ink Links. If Elmo is still there, definitely try to make an appointment with her – she’s one of the best. She did the piece on my right outer arm if you get the chance to see it.
When choosing a tattoo, go with something you know will mean something to you for the rest of you. All of my inks are based on symbols, each with a meaning deeper than the needles that were used on me. I prefer to have a story or something to say with each one when someone asks “What is that?” or “Why’d you get that there?” If nothing else, get a quote from your favorite book, poem, movie, or song.
I’m totally cool with that. The beauty of a forum is that you can always get back on topic, so long as you can read the previous posts.
Matthew, you mentioned that I’m into the “old school” of tattooing. I’m not exactly sure what that means, but if it’s a compliment on the fact that each of my tattoos are more than just show offy or based on aesthetics, then I’d totally agree. Each of my inks is based on a symbol with some sort of extra-spiritual notions.
KH, Donna, I’m sorry, but I’m neither English or crooked-cocked, so I’m of no use to either of you right now.
I know it sounds weird, but I’m actually okay with the crookedness of the lines. Granted, it’s only because the artist who did them was still learning, I got all three of the mentioned inks for free – so it’s definitely true you get what you pay for. Ultimately, I’m sleeving my arms, so each of these will end up worked into a greater design.
Dude, that’s fantastic! I may very well end up with this design inked on myself now. I’ve wanted something ‘coded’ – one idea I had was getting the UPC barcode of a product I buy a lot tatted somewhere, so I could have myself scanned whenever I bought that particular product in a store.

My tattoos all have meaning, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun. For me, the fun of my tattoos is the look on peoples faces when I explain the deeper meanings of my tattoos, and the semi-self-righteous feeling I get when someone else understands them but hasn’t had the cojones to go the distance.
I dig the right arm piece. I’ve kind of ruined one of those for myself with the placement of my forearm tats, but I enjoy a big intricate design down the arm.
