Looks good, and I like the unusual color choice on the koi. Kois come so many colors other then orange, it’s nice to see a tattoo that reflects that.

If you want the noble/loyal feel I would suggest not making it cartoony at all. You mentioned that the Egyptians had them. Why not put one in front of an Egyptian styled background with some things like temples, pyramids, and maybe Egyptian warrior’s worked in. That could portray nobility and loyalty and look really sweet IMO.

That second sleeve is going to be stunning when it’s finished. I like the knew skull as well.

The pictures could be better, but from what I can see I like it. The tree is still the central focus and commands the piece while the moon and sky add contrast.

You have to wait till this summer to get it finished, ouch. I get cranky when I have to schedual my next appointment a month out. Still, good things are worth waiting for and that is a stunning piece. I can’t wait to see how you and your artist do to finish it up.

Or you could think about getting two half sleeves, or two 3/4 sleeves. Why limit yourself to just one arm?

Interresting, do you intend to color any of it after the shading is done?

I like symbolism in a tattoo. And in my experience a good tattoo artist can help you align what you want with asthetics and flow. But just remember, all the time you spend thinking about a tattoo could be time spent getting tattoos instead. After a while only being able to think about the next tattoo and not being able to get it gets really annoying.

Tribal really is getting a bad wrap. I’ve seen my artist flat out refuse to do a tribal tattoo. What else interests you?
