Buy buy buy!!
If you can get any of the books on this site http://www.hardymarks.com/ buy them straight away. They stopped printing volumes 1-3 and now they’re worth hundreds of dollars.
Also get this one Milton H Zeis: Tattooing As You Like It.

Mike Roper. Don’t bother trying to find info on him because you can’t haha. He is a ghost, but one day it will happen!
You know the dude is good when this is what Grime says:
“Dude, and this is coming from me, for whatever that’s worth, but I’m a snob … Mike can tattoo circles around like 99% of the tattooers. Fuck, dude … that guy is insane…[Read more] -

im not a big fan of his wind bars and shading, but his work is def worth more than 100/hr.Agreed. I’m sorry but I know the rate is great for that level of work but that shouldn’t be the reason to committ. Especially since those designs are larger.

Sorry I’m not a fan of the font either. I think the hourglass will be cool.
I love a nice side of the head tattoo. Aside from Hooper’s geometric work on heads this has to be one of my favourites.

Some other great Aussie artists to peek at:
Fergus Simms – very bold traditional work much like Smith St., his lines are unbelievably clean. Fegus is young and is going to be famous!
Stevie Edge – Australia’s premier traditional tattoo artist. Stays true to the old school red, green, yellow and black the old sailors used to use. Kills anything…[Read more]

Personally for touch up tips and tips in general really I prefer to give a gift rather than just a money percentage. Possibly get him some tattoo books, old records, antiques or something else that you know they may be into. I have found that they really get siked by this more than straight out money.

If he lasers it to the point it is completely vanished then he won’t need a tattoo at all? Unless of course he wants one. Then he should do a tiger backpiece!

I didn’t mention laser because I think you should be pretty fine to straight out cover it. I can definitely see a full backpiece tiger or phoenix but having said that you could do just the right side of your back with one of these animals. A full back piece is an extremely long and full on committment.
Here is a back piece tattoo by Mike…[Read more]

Any decent tattoo artist would be able to cover that. The only thing is you will have to go big. I would suggest a full backpiece of a tiger or phoenix like you mentioned.

I would love to get some large scale work from most of the people already mentioned but I’m going to say in keeping with my favourite style traditional and pick Bailey Hunter Robinson. His folk style is beautiful.
