I had another 2 hours work done on my ribs last Tuesday. Totals up to 5 hrs on my ribs, trust me it’s a sensitive area though! Chest, shoulder blades, spine, bicep were nothing compared to the ribs! Didn’t stop me afterwards booking another 3 hour session early Feb for the other side of my ribs!

Interesting thread this. I’ve been tattooed by 5 different artists, and as Tattooedhunter said they all have their own after care theories. My ex housemate was a very experienced tattooist and I watched him work a lot and found his aftercare seemed to work the best for me. I’ve heard some artists recommend keeping the tattoo covered for a few days!! He reckons, depending on the size of the piece, around 4 hours later take the bandaging off, wipe the “slime” plasma” off very gently. Using normal unfragranced soap…

Then pat dry it, and cover it in a very thin layer of what he calls nipple cream. Basically unfragranced, NON anti bacterial cream. Then about 3-4 times a day reapply the cream.

This has worked really well for me. Talking to subsequent artisits who’ve done work on me, they are happy for me to follow the method I mentioned. One artist told me the reason some prescribe anti bacterial creams and cleaning more often than required is that 90% of people who get tatts tend to neglect them in terms of after care. I guess the idea being rather clean it more than required, than less, with slightly harsher stuff than required…

Anyways my 2cents!

Definitely!! Before you get inked ask to see the artists portfolio! If they are cagey or tell you no, then they probably haven’t got a very good reputation.

bittytoffee… ya that’s my feeling!! I think if the lily stays as just line work it’ll be lost in the whole piece. At the very least going to suggest some lightgrey shading of the lily. I’ll discuss colour with my artist when I have it completed on Monday next week.

Thank god for cover ups!!

There are some really terrible ones out there… only consolation is that I’ve seen some really amazing cover up work turning even the worst tattoo into something amazing!

With reference to what L3arn1ng 2 7a77o0 said. Are the hands and the heart not done in grey as opposed to the rest which is in black?

Really nice piece by the way, love the idea of the text and I think it fits perfectly where it is! 🙂

You think I should get some light shading added to the water lily flower?
