Cleanliness of the shop! And then quality of work. The other stuff is not so important. I’d pay top price and travel pretty far to get a great tattoo from a douche before I’d sacrifice on either cleanliness or quality.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! It was definately worse going over the bone than on the fleshy part of my side. But to me, it’s not worth sacrificing the placement because of the fear of pain.
Right now, it’s itchy as hell though. That’s by far worse than the needle. Ugh, someone get me some benadryl!

thanks guys! Actually, the pain wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be… I wasn’t sure what to expect.
And don’t get me wrong, it did hurt… but it was bearable. Don talked to me pretty much the whole time, so my mind didn’t have time to dwell on the pain.
I’m going back in december to finish her up. Unless I can get in sooner on a cancellation.

The artist is Don McDonald. He works out of Bodyworks Tattoo in Pittsburgh.

I like it. Though it’s hard to distinguish any detail, the general impression I get of the piece is good.
I don’t think the background takes away from the tree at all.

This is among the best pieces I’ve ever seen. It’s stunning.
I’m with Butterfly on the chest piece. You know you’re not gonna be able to stop after your back’s done anyway. 😀
