thanks, I think it’s pretty interesting too. I helped a student with a research paper and learned some pretty neat stuff about tattooing throughout history.
Leviticus 19:28, “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.”
This passage actually originally refers to pagan funerary practices and has been altered and misused over the years to refer to tattooin which has alternately been encouraged by, or banned by the church according to it’s usefullness at the time
The intent of the message was to discourage non-christian methods of disposing of the dead which may have included destruction of the body which would have been necessary to preserve for the afterlife. dismemberment and feeding the corpse to vultures would leave the soul with no body to return to.
When people remark to me about tattoos being “un-christian” citing the coptic tradition of tattooing pilgrims is a good rebuttal. Many early European pilgrims had a rooster or jerusalem cross tattooed on them by the coptic Christians to prove that they had truly been to the holy land.
Well, there are plenty of clear retainers out there to hide the HEALED piercings with, that’s not really a problem. hiding them at work while they’re healing is the problem. dimple piercings taake a LOT longer to heal than most oral piercings and you need a lot of room on your initial jewelry for a pretty long time.for the first few months you will have antennas dangling out of your face. it is imperative to have the extra length until the entire channel of the piercing is healed. a client of mine who had his dimples for about 4 months got drunk and slept on his face and woke up with his cheeks swollen around the jewelry, we put longer jewelry back in right away and the last time I saw him the piercings were doing well. If your job will not allow you to wear your piercings visibly for several months of healing this might not be a good piercing for you, or maybe just not a good time to have them. if you try to “cheat” by switching jewelry too soon or taking your jewelry out while you’re at work you will regret it! best of luck.
Thankyou Blue1 ๐
i hope the new place all works out for the pair of you and it will be great to see some photo’s of the place when ya get settled in of course ๐
yeah, he was, we inherited his disdain for tattoo shops from the flaky people who ran the shop before us.
The new place looks nice so far and I think it will be nice working with a few more artists. it got to be overwhelming sometimes with only 1 tattooist and 1 piercer! Thankyou for the warm welcome
Well thank you for the welcome. I don’t take your reply as sounding nasty at all. I do spend a good deal of my time drawing and digging through traditional art study resources ( anatomy for the artist, developing better perspective, type stuff) But since the apprenticeship process has been agonizingly slow for me (I’d like to talk machine theory, he’d like some bacon) I’m hoping being able to discuss with other tattooists might give me good starters for conversation and help me get the ball rolling. I work at Art Attack in Winston Salem right now, but will be joining my husband Jon at a new shop in Burlington NC called Von Lush studios soon. Up until Thanksgiving we had a shop in High Point NC called Planet Hardwear. We brought it from the brink of closing to being a relatively successful shop in our area, but an unexpected emergency caused us to close. we flooded and could not get the building owner to make the necessary repairs.
