Thanks guys, I know what you mean about the colour. To be honest it does look a little more dull or pastel like in the pics for some reason. They definetly look a little more bold and true to colour in person, same with the black, but it does have a sort of matte finish (for lack of a better adjective). You probably also noticed that there are no blending of colours, the same pigment was used to make the degradation in the colours, he just added some water to lighten them up. I think this also contributes to the “flat” look.

I’ve also gone to a respected tattooer in my area to ask about the colours and if he thought it needed to be reworked or touched up and he didn’t want to mess with it.

Personally I would say I’m satisfied with the tattoo, and it pretty much turned out the way i had hoped.

At first i thought maybe there was a few things I would change about it, but recently I realised I thiknk i just want another one. That’s what kind of made me think about doing the other side in a more new-school or western style look.

Does anybody know of any good Japanese style tattoo artists in Ontario or anywhere in Canada for that matter?

I’ve been looking at Horiryu – http://www.strictlytattoo.com/gallery/?album=2&gallery=1
But he is based in Vancouver.

Would really appreciate if someone could reccommend a good artist.

Cheers!

thanks for the feedback.

I’m diggin your your oni sleeve goldengraeme. I’m considering getting my other side done with a more newschool japanese style aswell. Not sure if the two styles would go together though or clash. What do you guys think?

hey mate,

I had no problem recognising it as a koi or anything although it is overall quite dark in areas as was needed to cover the pimp tat (which was pretty funny). Why haven’t you covered the elbow, knee or sheets? I think a bit more background would add to the piece, and cover it nicely.

I just think that needs to be covered, but otherwise he did a good job hiding what’s underneath.

How do you feel about it?

thanks for the replies. I do want the koi stand out as the main focal point of the piece, and if I plan to go black and yellow with it, i guess it would make sense to add some colour to the background. More picks to come after Sunday

thanks for the comments. I guess I will just wait and see what my artists says regarding the colours.

I will update the thread on Sunday after we begin the shading.

yea and maybe in the future you could consider bringing the water bars down a bit further past the skull to the base of the flower to cap it off nice and clean around the arm.

looks good man so far, but don’t be scared to take it down your arm a bit further and onto your chest, give yourself a bit more space for that type of tattoo as your trying to condense alot of detail in a confined space.

Japanese tattoos should be readable to the eye from a distance, and I think from further than 5 feet away it might be hard to make out the details or to see what the tattoo is.

I like it though. Is that a koi fish or dragon koi on the top part of your shoulder. I wish i could see it.

Must of hurt on the inside of the arm. I just had some outline work done there, and it was excruciating.

Not too sure how to incorporate the script, but you could consider trying ti incorporate the huntington disease association logo.

Just an idea, seems like a tough one.

I look forward to seeing the tiger when it is complete, I’m a big fan of japanese style work.

Once the color’s put it, it’ll look amazing. I wouldn’t worry about the lines. Had you not pointed them out, I wouldn’t have noticed.

Thanks for the feedback. I only notice it when I get really close. I will post more pics as it comes along.
cheers.

Cheers mate, thanks for the reply. Here is the closeup pic of the line in question and a snap of the whole outline. You can see how it is a bit shaky and the multiple lines that make up the outline. I would have to say I’m happy with the rest of the outline aside from this one small section, as this is the only area in which the multiple lines can be seen.

BTW, it is being done by Horikuz, an artist from the Horikazu tattoo family, so I trust he will fix this up as soon as it is healed.

Still would like to hear opinions. Thanks again for the feedback.

Cheers.
