Hell yes, I would. Esp. if we had common influences. Why not. If I had a band, the type of music I’d be making would likely require either a guy who could hit very high falsetto notes or a girl who can hit em naturally.
You Need to make one? Ok, well…punk rock comes from visceral, gut emotions. Not a planned, very structured approach. Ideally, it *should* be just you & a band jamming REAL hard & seeing what comes from it. Belting out in-your-face lyrics about something that makes you angry or frustrated. Forget love songs. Ok? Leave that to the emos….
Try:
Deerhoof -Milkman
Belle & Sebastian- Dear Catastrophe Waitress
Of Montreal- Suffer for Fashion
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Le Tigre- Deceptacon
Sleater Kinney- Oh!
The Shins- So Says I
The Apples in Stereo- Same Old Drag
Neutral Milk Hotel- Song Against Sex
Architecture in Helsinki- In Case We Die
White Stripes
Black Stone Cherry
Wolfmother
oh man!…This could never be a complete list, but:
Jailbreak -Thin Lizzy
Limelight- Rush
Blackened- Metallica
Angel of Death- Slayer
Dancing on Your Grave- Motorhead
Rock never left, man. Just took a back seat to pop & rap for a while. But it was always there (for better or worse) on mainstream radio & being made by indie rockers.
I never get tired of seeing *newbies* ask about classic rock, actually. Makes me feel good to know the Good stuff is getting carried onto the next generation.
But I agree if all they know is stuff like Stairway, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hotel California, Dream On, etc…they are Totally missing out on the great, sadly ignored deep cuts.
Metallica did many:
Whiskey in a jar
Breadfan
The Prince
Stone Cold Crazy
Need WAY more info.
