Good for you blue…

My life has improved SO much since I began understanding that I wasn’t as all-powerful, all-wise and all-perfect as I imagined myself to be.

I can soooo… relate to that…Arni 😀
We can spend so much of our lives fooling ourselves that we are something that we’re not, hiding behind a lie. All we gain for our efforts is the fear that one day someone will discover who we really are!!. Better to be free to glory in our weaknesses than tremble behind a lie. I’ve found it such a blessing to acknowledge my limitations, strange as that may sound…that is real power, as it sets a person free from that which once bound them!

There are unseen laws in life, laws that are as real as the law of gravity and the speed of light. Stu has learned to stay on the right side of these laws, freeing himself from all the curses and pitfalls that come from breaking them when he said… in not so many words:

Quote:
…to treat people as he’d like to be treated himself

in doing so he fulfills all the law, and if you fulfill the law who have you got to fear?

You certainly can force people to respect you but that kind of ‘forced’ respect comes at a price…such as fear, suspicion and the knowledge that when you do fall…and you will, rather than receiving help from concerned friends…you’re more likely to get a good kicking while you’re down! Sad, but true eh?

There is certainly much gain in humility and a whole lot of strife in holding onto pride. Wish I’d learned that one along time ago…ego and pride are expensive ornaments to hold onto! Sounds like you wised-up sometime ago, good on you…and it is paying dividends eh 🙂

As the good book says…be slow to talk and quick to listen. Bet they’ll think twice before they go blurting out they prejudices before you in the furture eh?
I learned a good lesson many years ago, not to judge anyone by their looks. I boxed a guy at Yarmouth, took one look at the skinny wretched and thought ‘this’ll be fun’. He gave me the hiding of my life! Totally our classed and out boxed me…never forget that lesson 🙂
We live n learn eh?

Good point, if they are already exposing their prejudices and lack of judgment regarding tattoos, what other areas does this failures of character stretch too, race, colour, home district etc?
Love to have seen the expression on their faces when you as their boss, revealed to them that you wore tats too! Now that would be one for the photo album eh? 😉

That’s interesting…goes some way to proving that there still prevails an attitude that says…
those who wear tattoos are of a lower moral standard, more prone to start fights or cause trouble

However, although this attitude does still exists it is certainly not as bad as it once was, with tats being worn by the full range of society, from the hardened criminal to the respectable business man and young girl. The days of trying to ‘pigeon-hole’ all who wear tats or piercings is ‘almost’ at an end.

Lets face it…if tats were the same quality as they were in the 70’s there would’ve never been shows like that to fuel them on. So, maybe first came the better quality of tattoos which fueled shows like the ‘inks’, then celebs and trailblazers like most of you guys…

Looks like they are one of…if not the biigest contributer to the acceptability of tats in the UK then, hitting the airwaves right in the booms years too! Talk about good timing…

I am no sure where is started either but I do think shows like Miami Ink and LA ink have helped the general public accept it more!

Heard of them from the Studio but that’s about it. No doubt they are helping it all along. I can’t remember tats being all that popular during the 90s, when did these programs…if that’s what they are, start? Just wondering how much a part of it they played in kicking-off tattoo acceptability…

Why not try to find out which clubs your current clientele frequents and start from there

Good point Asenath83…that is where I’ll start.

It amazes me the amount of posts saying that… in the clubs so many are wearing crappy tats. As I stated, I haven’t any tattoos but if I was too… I’d certainly do my homework first for both design and artist.

Anyway, it is becoming clear that hitting the club scene is not a bad idea. It is where people want to look their best, show people who they are and what they think. And more and more people are doing that in the clubs with tattoos n piercings.

Most nightclubs I’ve been to in the past didn’t even allow people with excessive tattoos into their club (face and hand tatts etc). In just a few years though I’ve seen fully covered revellers in clubs although the only tattoos you will see on most clubbers are the usual lower back tattoos on girls and arm tattoos on fellas.

I can’t really give a good answer as to why more and more people have tattoos today apart from the usual it’s more ‘socially acceptable’. Will face and hand tattoos be more socially acceptable in 10 or 15 years?

Thanks Mighty Ming.
It’s gotta be that they are much more artistic hasn’t? I mean…they’re hardly like the tats people would once get in prison or while serving in the merchant navy.

Some of the portraits they knockout nowadays are something else…you couldn’t have dreamed of them years ago.
I’m coming to the conclusion that there’s a bunch of people still having them to identify themselves with certain groups types, then a totally new lot to beautify themselves (including women) Yes theres lots of other reasons but they seem to be the two main reasons and one group is much newer that the other, mainly because of what is today possible with tattoos.
