Scour the internet for images you like, called reference material, then find a Tattooer who you like the work of, then approach them with your ideas and a budget and see if they are willing to work with you, if not move to the next and so on…..Good custom work is not cheap and not easy to work out. You’re asking someone to spend hours of design, in preparation before they are even paid by the hour for application and few appreciate the prep work. You have to find the right fit, it is not easy.

The pictures you see on the internet are fresh, and misleading. These designs need to be redone every few months for multiple sessions just to be readable. It is is a make work project so beware.

Choosing the artist often depends on the art style you want, what are you looking to get ?

Paying the quoted price is all that is needed. A tip is great if you can afford it. If you keep going back to the same artist it will all work out over time. The 2 hour – 6 hour discrepancy is a wide one, but sometimes that is what it takes to get it right. Just do not book the same artist if you have a tight schedule or are about to catch a plane lol

Your whole body is part of the healing process, even being super stressed can suppress your immune system and slow down the healing. Sounds like you are making progress though. Relax, get lots of sleep and keep your nutrition up, so your body has the stuff it needs to remake your skin and heal. Watch a comedy movie and laugh your butt off, for a change of pace, seriously, your body chemistry changes for the better. Tender is normal while healing. Best of luck and keep us posted!

If you are committed to learning to Tattoo then you will find a way through, my advice is to find someone who obviously knows how to Tattoo, then teach you if they can (Tattooer and Tattoo teacher are two different things), if that does not work then the internet is full of instruction, though not all is good information. Learning on your own is a slower process, but if is the only way for you, then have at it. The more you learn the better, learning will never stop in Tattooing, because there is alway more, techniques, styles, genres, subjects, on and on it goes…There are actual Forums setup to specifically learn Tattooing, if you get Reinventing the Tattoo by Guy Atchinson, I think they let you onto a forum for just that purpose.

Also this forum has a section called PRIVATE: TATTOO ARTISTS – PROFESSIONAL DISCUSSION which might get you the feedback you want.

Let the tattoo completely heal before you worry about what is left after the tattoo’s healing, there is nothing you can do once the process is underway anyway. If is swollen, put ice on it, for a few minutes then take it off for a few reapply and repeat… If it si simply bruised, that will go away with time unless it is something else… like Matthew pointed out.
No one will know until the healing is completed, tattoos go through several healing fazes before they settle and can look alright.

My bet is that when the sheets stuck to your tattoo, it tore a bunch of your skin off the top and your setback in healing time because of it. Simple cause and effect. You are not describing signs of an infection which is good. You could get some fresh aloe vera on it to speed up the healing.
Otherwise go with your experience in healing tattoos for you, adjusting for the sheet pull experience…hope this helps and keep us posted.
