Biker; Thank you. I’ve been struggling with something for it since I found out he died. I’ve finally been able to find all the perfect things that describe what I feel, the positives. At first I wanted a sad tattoo, but, I thought, in the future, when I was ok, would I want a sad reminded or something that celebrates him?

Butterfly; Thank you. :3 I included all of the stages of it so people could see what it looked in in each medium.

For sure. And I’ll, of course, eventually post the final on my skin too.

I really like that idea. I think I’ll start working on a design circling around that idea and see how I like it.
Thank you very much. 🙂

I figure the sooner I get it off the less session’s it’ll take right? Since the ink is fresher and hasn’t had too much time to settle into the skin?

Thanks! I’ll be sure to take a look at that the next time, and check it with the internet before I get the ink on.

Thanks so much! That actually sounds like a really good idea. I’ll keep that in mind and bring it up with my guy.

And that’s true about the Egypt thing. (I haven’t ventured far out of Cairo or Hurghada tbh.)

And while the boldening sounds like an interesting idea I really wouldn’t know how that would work.

But thank you so much for all the help!

You could always pick a word from each language and string them together into a design?
Maybe have one circle made out of words, and then a word branching out vertical around the circle or something. You can always think of a really simple design and just make the lines words.

Word of warning from being careless tho’. Especially with languages. Even after your artists has drawn the sketch and has put the lines on your skin to start tracing with the ink, look up the words at whatever reliable source you had. (Internet on your cellphone or something.) I didn’t do that, and the Arabic I have on my arm ended up being written backwards. For all the languages that do not follow the western model, do not trust your first glance in the mirror when you check to see if you’re ready to go.

I hope you have fun with this, it sounds like a really great idea!

If it had bee the Latin or the Greek I really wouldn’t have cared. (Even if I do have a perfectionist nature.) But the two most important ones were the Finnish and the Arabic, it’s why I even bothered to call long distance to check the translation.

I doubt I’d mind just doing something to that upper corner banner, maybe covering the text with a symbol or having something stretch back from it that’ll cover it. Any ideas on that? Or is that entire banner/conner just impossible to work with anymore?

I will bring it up with my guy next time I go tho’, June 19th (we’re finishing my lower back) and see what he recommends. I just didn’t want to go with a total “WTF do we do!?!” type of attitude, especially since it was my bad.

Go for it!
Especially if it’s a symbol of your resolve to yourself.
No one else really has to get it to be honest.
I’m getting a similar one the moment I’m happy with the design, and when I finish it, I will debate it with no one. Usually when I get my tattoo’s I will ask my guy’s opinion on it, what will look good 20 years from now, and what designs transfer well onto the body and where I want to put it. But certain things carry more weight and I don’t think you should compromise that if it’s a little “feminine” in most people’s eyes.
Your story, your skin. You make the call.
Good luck man!

Wow, that’s a nice design.
I think it does go really well with the roots you’re trying to show. Only thing is, I think it might look better if each image was clearly defined, instead of fading into each other where they meet. One on top of the other.
I’d also, when you get it, make sure you go to someone who’s good at doing more realistic tattoo’s, I think this might look a bit cheaper if it were bold and tilting towards cartoony. Instead keep all the shading and lines inside the two objects.
You might also think about what it’d look like just classical black and skin? I know a lot of people will say that color is better but some tattoo’s end up just looking more classy without it.
But that’s just my vision of it. Neat idea, hope you have fun with it!

That has to be just about the most ridiculous theory I’ve ever heard lol. I can tell you’re not a parent. Try applying that to other things. A kid wants a tattoo and you don’t let them do it. Is that equal an act as forcing the kid to get a tattoo she doesn’t want?

(Haha, honestly, I hope to never be one. )

You’re still forcing a body modification on them because of your views instead of theirs.

One of the things that immediately came to mind was … what was it.. wife swap? And they had a rather ‘punk’ family’s mother trade places with a strict upper class mother. And the ‘punk’ mother preached about how she was 100% open minded, more so than the other mother, but would not let her daughter take hip hop classes or dress in ‘mainstream’ clothes, even tho she wanted to.

That’s just how I see it. Doesn’t mean that everyone has to share my theory. Maybe with a tattoo it’s a bit more drastic, you can’t exactly take it back off once it’s on. But the idea is still there, even if the examples are weak.

-shrugs- I’d say go for it I guess, not at that age but maybe a bit older (earlier than her teens). The reason I say that is that in my experiance I have never met a girl who had as their main/only reason of not getting her ears pierced being that she was scared of the pain or the needle. (Not saying that there aren’t girls out there who just don’t want them.)

My godmother took me out at 5 and got my ears pierced and it was the best day of my young life. And if you’re scared of the pain, you really won’t remember it for years after. So I guess it’s easier? (Kinda like how parents actively try and get their children to have chicken pox when they’re younger, I guess.)

Ear piercings, if it’s just the regular lobes, really aren’t something to get a heart attack over.

I do recommend because of personal philosophy you wait until she is old enough to understand what is happening and that it is permanent (unless of course you take the piercings out and they scar over.) She should have an opinion on what happens to her.

It’s the exact same as telling her she CAN’T have piercings if she wanted them. If it ends up that she didn’t want piercings and you made her get some, it’s the same thing.

Thanks so much for the input!

I did consider leaving it as is. For story sakes or something.

But a new idea I had as I was going through my options (I looked at the laser and other methods, not too thrilled about them). I was thinking I could color in the banner with the Arabic, and then the banner with the Latin. (Cutting my losses type of thing.) Latin was put just to fill up space so I don’t mind if I loose that as long as it stays symmetrical. (And then later creating a whole new different tattoo as a memento to my Arabic heritage).

Would that work? Coloring in with black over the text to hide it? After it’s healed enough of course to be able to put a cover on top of it. I honestly don’t think I could afford the removal any time soon.

And I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who makes these mistakes. Helps me feel a little less dumb!

And as a side note about the noticing thing, I used to live in Egypt, and intend on visit as soon as I can get the money for two trips. (One to Finland and one to Egypt). And that would be my main concern, that what I tried to add as an honor emblem ended up just being wrong. d: But if the cover up option I just mentioned is a big no-no then I’m more than likely just going to leave it as is, or maybe slowly go through the lasering process.
