If this is your first tattoo, I guess it’s normal to be a little paranoid. Whether it’s warranted is hard to say, but if you post a picture we may be able to comment on that 🙂

I think it’s looking good so far, especially considering what needed to be covered up, but without having any clue as to what you like it’s really hard to give recommendations…

I like the idea of incorporating them into various other, larger pieces. That way, the focus is not on the stars so it wouldn’t come off as cheesy in my opinion, and you would be the only one who knows what they stand for.
