Very well said inkybits, and I wholeheartedly agree!! I’ve got skin ‘issues’ too so I’ve gotta be careful, that’s why I check EVERYTHING out before I buy it. Not only that but I don’t do cheap when it comes to my inkwork, so why the hell would I want to risk using something on it that’s gonna doom it to fade out, just to “go with the flow” cuz other people think it’s great. Nah. That’s not my style. I’m gonna take care of my ink. It’s gonna be with me the rest of my life & I want it to look damn good in 30 years, not just damn good in 3 months.

Here’s a little something I’m hooked on, called Hemp stick. Man you gotta try this stuff!! Not only is it natural, its got some really good shit in it & I swear by it. It’s what got me wondering WTF is keeping the big companies in business when there’s stuff like THIS around that puts em to shame!! Here’s the link:

I’m gonna check out the TAC you mentioned too. Thanx for the tip!

Exactly! NO ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT unless you actually have an infection. There’s a tattoo shop owner on another forum that said he “will not be held responsible if they don’t follow THEIR aftercare instructions” which include using Bepanthan (petroleum and paraffin wax – NOT good). Sorta hit me wrong because while I understand how important aftercare is… some people are too uneducated on the actual ingredients they’re putting on their skin. No big deal if I didn’t know any better, but I do & I’d have a REAL PROBLEM with somebody telling me they’re not gonna be responsible for my tatt unless I rub petroleum & wax into my new ink. Kwim?

The reason polysporin ‘pulls ink out’ is because it’s petroleum based. So is bepanthen. Although antibiotics are good, you can keep the wound clean at all times to help avoid infection & not use the petroleum products. Savlon and bepanthen also both contain paraffin (a wax used to make cheap candles) and it’s known to clog pores which can be problematic during healing. Some waxes are fine but paraffin is definitely not.

So use an antibiotic very sparingly if you must like matthew said, but after day 2 or 3, a quality unscented lotion or a Hemp stick (natural healing ingreds) is all that you’ll need. I’m new here, but I’ve researched the ingredients in all of these products until my eyes cross. I put a LOT of thought & planning into my ink and I want to take care of it.

Welcome to the forum and what is your idea for the new ink?

Well, lets see. I have a real hard time explaining my idea for the next ink I want (guess that’s why I dont have it yet lol) but I’ll try. Guess you could call it party tribal-ish and party ‘gang’ looking in a very odd way. I’m in no way affiliated with a gang or want to give off that impression through the tat, I just like the old english font style for lettering & most people around here refer to it as ‘gang’ lettering. I’m working with a very talented artist at the moment & I think we’re making progress. It’s just going slow. I’ll post pics as soon as we agree on a sketch.

pinkiesue, I highly recommend a ‘Hemp stick’. I really do. I said that in another thread but it bears repeating because it’s good shit. I wouldn’t use bepanthan if you gave me a lifetime supply. It’s got petroleum (draws ink out) and paraffin wax (clogs pores) AND it doesn’t even have a preservative even though it’s a water based product, meaning you’d have to be super careful to not grow bacteria right in the tube. I researched all of the different recommendations & found that bepanthan and savlon both have too many drawbacks. The Hemp stick is all natural with a list of ingredients that are beneficial to quick healing (I checked em all out first) and I don’t have to worry about having a reaction to it like some people have had. A good unscented lotion also helps, just read the ingredient list first. Polysporin has polymyxin and bacitracin, both good antibiotics, but again… it’s petroleum based.

Here’s the link to the Hemp stick I use, in case you wanna check it out:

I’m new here but I saw this post and had to chime in… I second the HEMP STICK. It’s good sh*t. I’d been using bepanthen at first (2 days) and while that did ok, the itching was fierce. On day 3 my hemp stick came in the mail & that stuff felt good the second I put it on. Lasts forever too. There’s enough in the stick to get ya through 50 tattoos probably! I barely made a dent in mine. Best $10 investment I’ve made in a long time.
