Looking good pal! Nice start. Will be great with more detail. I think this would be a good sketch to give to an artist and then let him/her work up a really SICK design from there.

Its possible that some Hawaiian or Maori inspired designs could work with the ink you already have there. It would mostly like mean going fairly big, at least half sleeve and shoulder/chest. Check out the tribal tattoo forum, you might get some ideas from there.
Another idea might be a biomech style…

This piece would probably look way better with colour, as long as the artist who did the colour was skilled and experienced.

I’d say think about it a bit more. That’s good tattoo real estate there and you could do so much more with your idea if you went for a design that embodied the concept rather than just a word, or, alternately, as was already suggested, go small and discrete somewhere else on your body.

So when you think back to the time when you lived in Vancouver what aspects of the city stand out for you?

If your long term goal is get a full sleeve then it would be wonderful if you could plan the whole piece at once and then if you could only afford to do a little at a time maybe consult with the artist as to how best to go about that.
I did one half sleeve, starting with a band and adding on as I wanted more but it was tough to make anything work…[Read more]

Thanks for your comments guys.:)
Albert I really like your sleeve. It is neat to see the photos showing how it developed. The design looks original and creative.
BTW, I was going to place some votes on your photos but still am not sure how that’s done. 😮

Take care of yourself, it takes a long time to get over a loss like this. But what a wonderful way to remember your grandmother with a fine sleeve like yours.

Would you mind sharing what some of the elements in the sleeve symbolize in relation to your grandma?
I decided on a sleeve as a tribute to my Mom and all the main aspects relate directly to her.

Yes, I know what you mean. Here in Vancouver some studios have the client sign a waiver to indicate they understand the risks and have had a consultation and info sesh from the artist prior to the work commencing. I signed a waiver for my latest piece and felt fine about the paperwork.

I think just getting it reworked to brighten up some of that tired ink would be great. So how do artists generally feel about requests to brighten up a piece if they weren’t the ones who did the work originally?
