I think that acknowledging your heritage is right up there with some of the best reasons to get a tattoo.

My personal opinion (and sometimes it starts long debates on forums… so sorry) is that I love tattoos that aren’t obvious… I like for people to sort of work it out but have to ask for the story. To me the story of why / when / how / by whom is part of the tattoo experience.

What I’m getting as is: a flag will be great… but… what about if you took an even more personal view of it. How are you Lithuanian? Was it a Grandfather / Grandmother? When did they come to America? On what ship? What was their job in the homeland? What province did they come from? When you get answers to these questions… you may find that heaps of design ideas come up. Was he a blacksmith… or a farmer? Was he religious? What was the reasons at the time that he came to America?

I’m sorry I can’t give many examples here because those questions are so related to your families experience… but if you came up with a design based on something like these ideas… then when people ask – you have a really interesting story to tell and by the end everyone will understand exactly why you would have spent the time/money/effort to get yourself permanently marked with such a symbol.

Good luck!

Well that’s really an answer i was looking for:] and its those questions that make me proud for my heritage. thanks for the info.
