I’m not sure that the negatively-perceived responses necessarily display snobbery; I think it’s just observational that a great many people go on to have these tattoos covered/lasered. Personally, I like some of the novelty stuff and believe it is, in many cases, more significant than the miami ink-inspired kanji/dragon/koi stuff supposedly dripping in meaning and insight.

Ultimately, it’s about free choice and hoping those choices hold up over time.

Right there with you, my man.

Just googled this randy fellow.

I think his ‘touch up’ appointments would be better spent having his horrid tribal subjected to the laser.

Hi,

I’m a black and grey fan, so that would be my shout. On a side note, I don’t want to be pedantic but with all the horribly misspelled tattoos floating about online I feel I need to point out that the correct spelling is angel.

I feel a bit of an arse, but if you decided to get some script it’s worth pointing this out as, obviously, not all tattooists check these things.

Sorry to hear about your brother. It’s a lovely tribute.

Minnie and Mickey?

Ignore me, florida doesn’t inspire.

On a serious note, I think the trick is to get something personal to yourselves (possibly, as mentioned above, an inside joke), but make it something that will hold up on its own. I say this because, as much as we don’t always like to entertain it, relationships are prone to running off course. Therefore, it’s important that any tattoo you may have will be worn fondly regardless of your status.

I have a tattoo that was designed by my very gifted girlfriend. Obviously, this tattoo will always link back to her whether or not our relationship endures. BUT….the tattoo’s theme is deeply personal to me and so could never be regretted.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

I have to say I agree with the (hopefully) ironically named topdog. I cringe a little bit every time somebody wants a tattoo the pertains to something sickeningly current or ‘trendy’.

I understand that we are always growing/changing/learning and being exposed to things and experiences that affect and influence us. Some opt to effectively ‘plot’ the significant points with commerative tattoos. I suppose you could look back at this tattoo and fondly recall how much this game (I’m trusting the above posters on this as I haven’t heard of this creed business) meant to you. But you will have that logo on your arm forever. Is that game significant enough for you to intelligently make a case for carrying it with you for the rest of your life? The leap from scrawling on a folder or pencil case to staining skin is a massive one.

Most tattoo purists would make an argument for aesthetics being the primary driver, which I think is very sound. So if you just love the logo then go for it. But remember that one day it will be as current as PacMan.

Hi,

This is quite a pertinent point for me. I currently have tattoos on both shoulders (my right side reaching down just south of the average t-shirt sleeve). This Saturday (26th) I am booked in to have my right arm extended to a full sleeve (several hours over two days so I finally get to see where my threshold lies).

Obviously, I have thought long and hard (*insert own joke here*) about the ramifications of making such a commitment. I am fortunate to be in a job that will be unaffected by my decision, and my family and friends are relatively understanding/neutral. That apart, I have to accept that certain judgements will be made about me.

I have reached a stage (age?) where I am able to not give too much weight to strangers’ opinions and remain philisophical. Also, frankly, I’m a little bit fed up with nobody being able to see the markings on my body that I’ve played bloody good money for. Thank you.

This forum is largely an asshole-free zone, but this thread was certainly started by one.

Jog on, sunshine.

Maybe it’s just me, but I suspect this poster is spamming with attention-grabbing posts so that we ‘check out’ the link to the place from where he selects all of his tattoos. Apparently.

Two face tattooing threads simultaneously. Seriously?

there doesn’t seem to be too much of an issue here. Your artist has said he’ll look at it and touch it up if need be. Once it stops scabbing or flaking it is sufficiently healed for you to revisit your artist.

Don’t overcomplicate it.

This has opened my eyes. I was about to get a butterfly tattooed on my forehead, but then realised I am an aggressive person with a very aesthetic backside.

Dragon on the arse it is.

congratulations on having everyone touch you.

Tattoos are just incidental in cases such as this. 😉

Again, sorry for your loss.

This is quite a relevant subject for me as I have my mother’s name in Thai tattooed on my arm. I had it done in Thailand and checked it with some locals ;-). I’d be inclined to patronise a Thai restaurant and ask for a translation. Obviously this would need to be checked, but perhaps your relative would be able to help with that (non english-speaking thai people were able to verify that mine was correct by reading my tattoo phonetically).

Good luck with it.

Hey,

Thanks for the rapid responses – no slouching on this forum.

Jubakuba, I’m planning a portrait of my niece, and a stone wall from Angkor Wat (Cambodia) carved with a Buddha image. These two will make up the main elements (portrait on inner forearm, buddha on outer), possibly with dove/leaf/rose detail.

I’m curious as to how the whole thing will flow together, bearing in mind it has to incorporate my current work (a mish mash of text, flowers, wings, a symbol and fine filagree type swirls.

My tiny brain has been straining itself to capacity over the composition.

Ms Ruby will save the day, no doubt.

Tatty bye for now.
