I had my boyfriends name tattooed on me after 3 years, we split up a couple of months later and it took me 4 years to get around to covering it up (laziness, not leftover feelings).
I now have my current boyfriends initials on my wrist. Don’t see the problem with having a name tattooed on you, yes it’s permanent and you could split up but they’ve still made an imprint on your life and these tattoos were done in long term relationships, living together and planning a future.
Tattoos are mementos.
Back to the wrist thing, I like wrist tattoos, they seem very sensual, easy to display or subtly showing around a cuff, but thats just me!
I (predictably) prefer LA ink because the majority of the artists are female as am I. That simple. I liked Miami Ink but they seem to be much more aggressive and it makes me uncomfortable to watch confrontations between the guys or the guys and their clients.
I’ve never had a tattoo by someone really annoying, I think it would probably taint the experience and therefore the tattoo though.
I like the shows, I didn’t really consider a career in tattoo or any art form (due to parents views about getting a ‘real’ job) but being able to show them the inside of a tattoo studio (albeit the more glamourous cut from the comfort and familiarity of their own living room) has meant I can actually start working towards a career I’ll enjoy.
I’m sure it’s broken down alot of stigmas for other people too.
Although I agree they spend too long on the ‘real life’ side, I’d rather see another tattoo or learn more about how the artists got started than watch them going to anger management!
I was going to suggest altering the ‘s’ to look like a treble clef but the photoshopped clouds adds much more depth. I’m always amazed at how many completely different directions a tattoo can be taken in just by getting a few opinions!
Thanks very much for replying, I have no intention of tattooing outside of a studio unsupervised for a very long time, far too scared of disfiguring someone!
I saw some advice that suggested creating some of my own flash sheets as part of a portfolio, is this worth doing?
I must be impatient, I text photos to everyone while I’m still in the chair!
Had 7 tats in 6 months and they started taking longer and longer to heal so been taking a break.
Last one on my foot took 2 weeks to get past the initial scabby phase, that usually only takes a few days.
Saying that, I’ve never had a tattoo done in stages, if I had to do that I would wait until it was finished.
