Thanks! I live not far from Gardermoen.
No, I know what it’s supposed to be – I just quoted someone too fast. I think the blue ringed octopus is beautiful, but I’m saying that it might end up looking like blue lepoard spots or something. To most people.
PS. I’m not a guy. I’m a hot chick too! 😎
Very nice! Who’s the apprentice/what shop? I’m Norwegian too.
That was my first thought too. Personally, I’m thinking that’s just one of those things that look better on paper than in reality. From what I can see of the dragonfly, it looks really nice, though.
Here it is. Need to get a better photo. Also need to fix the left eye, tho.
Good luck with your Torres appt! Should be awesome.
B/G for sure. Personally, I’m not feeling Dmitry’s color work when it comes to skin tones (though loving his color work on other things, like the red and yellow leaves). They do have different signature styles, but they all display an extremely good command of shadowing and realism in general. They also all have displayed previous work that have me convinced that I would be happy with either one of them, though as I said, I favor Torres for this piece. Hernandez is best known for his dark horror stylistic freehand style, but he does other stuff as well and I have spoken to him and know he is a big Caravaggio fan (as is Torres, I have spoken to him earlier as well). It is easier to get appts with Torres when he is doing conventions (which I know as I had a spot offered on fairly short notice – sadly couldn’t take it), though I have no problem waiting a year or two. I also have no issue with traveling – for my first one, I flew to Russia (to Den Yakovlev).
Hernandez is best known for his B/G work, but IMO he is AMAZING with color. I agree that the three artists I mentioned are different (Torres=pencil texture, Hernandez=smooth spraypaintish, Samohin=watercolor feel), but to say that they they have totally different styles… meh…
For those of you who are not familiar wtih the artists:
Carlos Torres:
Robert Hernandez:
Dmitry Samohin:
And it is only fair to include some signature pieces:

Dmitry Samohin:
Yeah, that’s disgustingly bad work. Take your money elsewhere. Also might I suggest that you spend a lot of time studying portfolios before settling on an artist. When you know how to compare and grade work, then you’re ready to get tattooed. Example:

Thanks Buttwheat, like I said I am ONLY getting the angel. I’m not looking to get my chest done at this point (I’m a girl so there are “obstacles” ;-)).
I’ll edit the first picture to exclude what I don’t want.
Dude, you really only have two choices if you are concious about your religious stance:
a) Scrap the idea and any variations on that idea, or
b) Scrap atheism
Or you could always just go for it and spend the rest of your life looking like a fool when people ask you about the religious significance of your tattoo. But hey, it could be worse, like getting a nazi swastika just because it kinda looks nice.
A text tattoo may not be art – but the same goes for image tattoos. Tattooing is not artistry in itself, it is a trade and may or may not be art, depending on factors such as:
– The uniqueness of the idea
– The intent of the creator
– The effect on the viewer
– The craftmanship
If you know the slightest thing about art, you would not hesitate to acknowledge that words may be art.
Most of you tattooed boys and girls out there are not wearing art, wether it be images or words. Recycled ideas, copied images, poor craftmanship. There is a serious lack of imagination and individuality out there. A koi fish? A phoenix? Stars? Starsign? Really? Well, if you want to show the world how incapable you are of being a non-conforming individual, then please, go ahead. The most important thing is that you’re happy. But don’t try to convince me that your ink is art. If, on the other hand, you readily admit that it’s not, then we’re cool.
Does this guy have his own website, myspace etc?
Great piece. I love the background flowers and filligree. The couple don’t do much for me, but it may be because of the woman’s arms – the left elbow in particular. But all in all an artistic piece with a great idea behind it.
Thanks! It was only a 2 1/2 hr flight – I’d gladly travel further!
