You’re not getting away from the religious nature of the imagery. How you may interpret it is not how an entire culture interprets it. Its imagery revolving around a religious holiday, a national holiday based in prayer and honoring the dead. If you are truly anti-religion this is not a theme for you.

No, you’re bad is trying to get technical tattoo information from strangers on a tattoo enthusiast forum rather than from a mentor during a proper apprecticeship. Just wondering, but what doesn’t impress you about his work?
Not hating on your opinion, just wondering. His work is very inconsistent, for every decent piece there is an equally bad piece. Not a good sign. He shows promise but I wouldn’t choose him to do work on me.

Scared, nice and scared. Most of the outer rings will bleed together. Would have done so even if the tattoo was applied properly. Your artist should have thought ahead for you and made adequate space between those lines. The blown out lines can be sculpted. At least the rings are fairly concentric.

I’d keep looking for an artist. Not very impressed by the guys work. What you have can be easily covered, but covering what you may get to cover the existing tattoo will be much harder.

This is getting really dumb. The OP has repeatedly said he didn’t want a traditional Japanese styled koi but people are still putting it down for not following traditional Japanese rules. Is see now, you’re the one to blame. Blind leading the blind. And I would never condone hitting a woman but I know plenty of women who would do it for me. Takes 5 min. to draw a “koi” and do it right.
literally 5 min.

Its good that you’re happy with your tattoo. But it is a very sub par tattoo. The belly leeds to nowhere the spine of the fish is twisted like its broken the head looks more like a catfish than a choi and the color is muddy and blotchy. I apologize for picking on the most apparent aspect of the design, but if i would have gotten this tattoo i…[Read more]

I always tell customers to live with the tattoo for a few weeks when i think color vs B&G might be an issue. Sorry to see you might be displeased. Your only option for reverting back to a B&G piece is a laser and a lot of pain.

Your tattoo could be either fixed or covered depending on what your preference is. Its not a jacked up as you might think. You just really need to chose your artist better dont just check portfolios. Try to get in the shop and see some of his/her work when its being done. Some people are inconsistent. Regardless of the route you choose there will…[Read more]

As you said in your original post the college course was a good start, but not the best. Its going to teach you a few fundamentals but i find at a college you tend to get the “we’re more interested in your cash than your talent” level of instruction. In most major US cities with large NFP museums these museums offer outreach programs. Here in…[Read more]

Thing I hate the most about my industry is people who just “have” to get a apprenticeship. Just to let you know there is already an abundance of tattooers, so many that in todays economy its getting more and more difficult to make a living. 80% of those tattooers couldn’t draw to save there lives. When it comes down to brass tacs your art is not…[Read more]
