I was more referring to the fact that it is a tattoo of a face.

Damn man, those are awesome. There very few artists in Victoria I’d trust to do realism like that but I might have to look Mick Squire up and check out his work. The skull is done very nicely, too.

Very nice. It’s not my type of thing but good work is to be appreciated no matter what form it takes. I don’t even want to think about the pain you went through; I had enough of a session around the scapula and collar bone let alone an entire tattoo on the shin..

I was thinking this, also. I believe portraits and realism tattoos are best left to those who specialise in them since it is such a delicate art.

All done! Finished the last session 2 weeks ago so I let it heal up before I took some photos. Got some bigger ones this time but they’re still from my phone so it doesn’t do the tattoo much justice.

Thanks, I’m actually hoping he has a long waiting list so I’m not tempted to invest the money sometime soon. It’s worth every cent but trying to save money for so many other things as well.
Update on my sleeve: the most recent red ink done on the dragon has faded a lot like the front of the dragon did so I’m expecting to do a second round on it…[Read more]

I will also have to agree with this. The skull really sets up the rest of the piece and showcases the vibrant colours in contrast.

I want to go to Ben Laukis for my next tattoo. I’m not sure whether to use a theme or not though as he does portraits. It’s pretty much down to Scorsese characters, gangster movie characters or simply great character portrayals in film.

2 more sessions since my last post guys and I’ve got about 3 hours left until it’s finished! Hopefully he can get me in just after new years.
Sorry the pictures are on the small side and crappy quality; they don’t do it justice at all. Just have to finish off the dragon with some bold lines and some colour on the outer scales, possibly…[Read more]

I don’t think it’s as bad as people are saying. Now, I’ve seen some god awful portraits which is why I’ve never considered getting one as a tattoo until recently. I think your artist did well with the face but his work with hair/beards will be something to focus on to get the little details down pat.

Pics from yesterday’s session:
Wrist was a killer, definitely isn’t a pleasant spot. He said we’ll do the flames and probably shade the dragon next week. He’s thinking blue/green or blue/white for the flames.

Damn dude, I remember seeing this thread when I first registered on the forums and thinking it was amazing. Seems like a long time ago when I was first researching tattoos. I only just started getting my tattoo in April and still going.

I’ve now done 9 sessions on my sleeve:
My next session is tomorrow where he’ll probably start shading and putting the washes in the cloud work. Including tomorrow, I’ve got 3 more sessions booked but I’ll probably need 4 I reckon.
Edit: Sam-I-Am, I swear your sig said 74 hours of ink and counting like 2 weeks ago! That’s insane.
